What is an Abdominal Hysterectomy?

Abdominal Hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the uterus through an incision in the lower abdomen. It is recommended for women with:

• Uterine fibroids causing severe pain or heavy bleeding.
• Endometriosis or adenomyosis leading to chronic pelvic pain.
• Uterine prolapse, where the uterus descends into the vaginal canal.
• Persistent abnormal bleeding that does not respond to other treatments.
• Certain types of gynecological cancers requiring uterus removal.

How is the Procedure Performed?

• A surgical incision is made in the lower abdomen (either vertically or horizontally).
• The uterus is carefully removed, and in some cases, the ovaries and fallopian tubes may also be removed if medically necessary.
• The incision is closed with sutures, and the patient is monitored for recovery.
• The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, with a hospital stay of a few days for post-surgical care.
